In essence, things are very simple. Interpreters are a \u2018necessary evil\u2019: we are needed to build those vital bridges between languages, but at the same time we are constantly speaking \u2013 and always when a speaker is already doing so. To ensure we do not cause any disruption, this \u2018necessary evil\u2019 is ushered into a soundproof booth, and then peace and order reign. <\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The booth is, in itself, an ideal solution (we don\u2019t disturb others, we can work undisturbed and the sound is delivered directly to our ears, which ensures high quality<\/span>), but behind its perfection it does have a few drawbacks: it takes up space<\/span>, it\u2019s expensive and it can really only work if it\u2019s operated by is supervised by a technician. In many cases, this is the only viable solution for <\/span>interpreting, particularly at events and conferences with a large number of participants.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

However, there are instances of smaller gatherings, meetings or training sessions. In some settings, the soundproof booth solution isn\u2019t really feasible. These are precisely the circumstances where the booth\u2019s little sister comes into its own: the whisper system, or personal audio system (PFA). <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It is portable and consists of a microphone (transmitter) which transmits the sound directly to the listeners (a small device with headphones or earhooks). In this case, the interpreters sit directly in the hall, ideally close to the speakers so that we can both see and hear them clearly, and speak the interpretation very quietly into the microphone. <\/span><\/p>\n

All in all, the whisper system excels precisely where the booth falls short: it is cheaper, versatile, requires neither much space nor a technician\u2026 \u2013 but it puts the \u2018necessary evil\u2019 right back where the booth had previously removed it from, namely right in the middle of the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
